Volunteer Opportunities 240 hits

If you have time to offer, we'll take it! Corazon a Corazon welcomes volunteers of all ages, genders, and backgrounds willing to support a good cause. Opportunities abound both here in Dalton, Georgia and in Honduras... or wherever else Corazon a Corazon volunteers are called to go!

Because we collect donations (clothing, shoes, glasses, wheelchairs, tools, non-perishable foods... and the list goes on) year round, there is ALWAYS work to do in our warehouse. There are plenty of items to be sorted and boxed at any given time.

Are you good at public speaking? We'll train you to go out in the community and lecture at churches, civic clubs and organizations, or in classrooms.  After you are trained, we'll set up the engagement; all you have to do is shine!

Perhaps you've always dreamt of adventure on the high sea and in lands far away? We ship several containers of relief items annually. Corazon a Corazon volunteers travel to Honduras (or where ever) to deliver these supplies in person and offer man power where needed.

Can you work on bicycles? We have plenty of bikes in need of repair.

Do your talents lie in fundraising? Do you have medical experience? Are you a seasoned volunteer or a first timer itching to make a difference?

Whatever the case, we need you! Call 706-218-5194 to find out how you can help us help others.

WE'RE TAKING SPORTS TO THE MOSKITO COAST 208 hits
Corazon a Corazon is at this time collecting sporting equipment (both new and used) to take to the Moskito Coast of Honduras. Soccer balls, footballs, softballs, basketballs, bats, volley balls, nets, goals, uniforms - we want to take everything we can get our hands on! Corazon a Corazon volunteers will teach the Moskito Indians how to play. When you think of the Moskito Coast, think of America before Columbus set foot here. There are no televisions, gameboys, four wheelers or other forms of entertainment we take for granted here in the states... providing the young people of the Moskito Coast with the knowledge of basketball, soccer, volleyball (etc.) and with the equipment to play with is providing them with a recreational activity targeted at improving the quality of their lives! To drop off sporting equipment for Honduras, come by MedNow - 2705 Airport Road, Dalton, GA - or call 706-218-5194.

LOBSTER SEASON OPENS AUGUST 1, 2006 IN HONDURAS 211 hits

CAN THIS SEASON BE DIFFERENT?

The life of a lobsterman used to be a good one. Most lobsters were trapped close to shore and injuries were few. But with no regulations in place, overfishing has become rampant and the reefs are wiped clean. Now the lobster search has shifted to deeper water, and lobster boat captains push inexperienced, ill-equiped divers to probe greater depths and risk their lives for bigger catches. The results are gruesome.

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS to participate in INJURED LOBSTER DIVER SURVEY SUMMER 2006 169 hits

This summer Corazon a Corazon will conduct a case study of injured lobster divers populating the Honduran Moskito Coast. The Georgia-based humanitarian organization is currently looking for volunteers interested in traveling to Honduras to participate.

For centuries the Moskito Indians of Honduras and Nicaragua have relied on the sea to survive. Historically they have harvested lobster for their own consumption. Now, functioning as foot soliders in the $40 million lobster export industry, the Moskito Indians are too often being killed or disabled in the race to place cheap lobster tails on U.S. and Canadian tables.
